Plot Overview

Set in the peaceful village of Ranni in Pathanamthitta, Thudarum tells the story of Shanmugham, fondly called Benz, played by Mohanlal. A simple taxi driver who cherishes his vintage Ambassador car, Benz’s world is turned upside down when his son Pavi falls in love with Mary, the daughter of CI George Mathan. Disapproving of their relationship, George murders Pavi and hides the body inside Benz’s beloved car.

Devastated and falsely accused, Benz struggles to clear his name. Betrayed by a corrupt system and consumed by grief, he sets out on a dangerous path of revenge. The film transitions from a moving family drama into a suspenseful revenge thriller, keeping the audience hooked until the very end.

Performances

Mohanlal delivers an outstanding performance as Benz, capturing every emotion with deep sincerity. His portrayal of grief, helplessness, and later, silent rage, is truly powerful. Shobana, playing Lalitha Shanmugham, adds both strength and emotional depth, marking a wonderful return to the big screen.

Prakash Varma impresses as the villainous CI George Mathan, making the audience loathe his character. Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Binu Pappu offer solid support, adding richness to the story with their natural performances.

Direction and Technical Aspects

Tharun Moorthy, already known for his storytelling skills, shines brighter with Thudarum. Along with co-writer K. R. Sunil, he delivers a tight screenplay that masterfully balances emotions and suspense.

The cinematography by Shaji Kumar perfectly captures the raw beauty of Kerala’s countryside, enhancing the mood of the film. Nishadh Yusuf and Shafeeque V. B. have edited the film crisply, ensuring the story moves without unnecessary lag. Jakes Bejoy’s music is soulful and elevates emotional moments beautifully.
